ABOUT US
Our Mission
The South Asian Union (SAU) is committed to nurturing a dynamic community of South Asian societies at universities across the UK. Our mission is to empower these societies by providing extensive resources, support for professional development, and a platform for effective collaboration. By joining SAU, societies gain access to a broad range of benefits from event management resources to professional training, all designed to enhance their cultural, educational, and professional activities.
Our Vision
SAU envisions a network where South Asian societies at various educational institutions can thrive through mutual collaboration and shared objectives. We aim to create inclusive environments that champion diversity, combat racism, and support international students. Our goal is to host large-scale, impactful events that not only provide "wow" experiences but also cultivate a sense of belonging and community among students of South Asian heritage.
Our History
Established in 2024, SAU was created out of a need for a unified platform that could provide logistical support and strategic growth opportunities to South Asian societies facing fragmentation and limited resources. The collaboration of forward-thinking organizations and leaders led to a union uniquely positioned to streamline resource allocation, enhance collaboration, and improve the quality of member societies both individually and collectively.
OUR OBJECTIVES
SAU is committed to:
- Resource Accessibility: Ensuring all member societies, regardless of size, have access to necessary venues and financial support.
- Inclusivity and Diversity: Actively promoting an environment that fosters diversity and inclusivity.
- Collaborative Initiatives: Encouraging collaboration to leverage collective strengths for more significant, impactful events.
- Financial Empowerment: Managing a funding pool sourced from sponsorships and donations to provide financial backing without additional costs to members.
- Capacity Building: Offering targeted training and professional development to enhance the skills required for efficient society management.
- Recognition of Excellence: Establishing a formal recognition program to honor societies and individuals for their outstanding collaborative achievements.
Governance and Structure
SAU’s governance structure includes an Executive Board comprised of elected officials from member societies, operational committees handling specific areas such as events and finance, and regional representatives ensuring local engagement and relevance. This structure supports SAU’s commitment to transparency and accountability, upheld through regular audits, detailed financial disclosures, and stringent ethical standards.
